***MEDIA ALERT***

VIRGINIA’S NEW HOME BUILDERS TO RALLY IN RICHMOND ON JAN. 30
AGAINST ANTI-HOUSING LEGISLATION

Nearly 500 New Home Builders Expected in Blitz on the Capitol to Encourage Elected Officials to Preserve New Home Affordability Across Virginia

WHO:
Nearly 500 new home builders who are members of the Home Builders Association of Virginia. (The organization includes 17 local chapters throughout Virginia with approximately 5,700 member firms.)

WHAT:
Virginia’s new home builders will rally at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Richmond before marching together to the General Assembly Building to oppose anti-housing initiatives this legislative session that unfairly target new homeowners. Such anti-housing measures could dramatically affect the affordability of new homes statewide putting homeownership out of reach for many Virginians.

Virginia’s builders believe that new homebuyers should not be burdened by unfair taxes, fees and “quick fixes” to fund Virginia’s transportation crisis. Builders in HBAV believe in a more balanced approach that includes broad-based funding to meet the state’s budget.

Rally participants from across Virginia also will remind delegates and senators about the many positive attributes of the housing industry including job creation and economic development.

WHEN:
The current schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 30 includes:
9 - 9:30 a.m. – HBAV builders will gather for a briefing at the Richmond Marriott.

9:30 – 9:40 a.m. – HBAV builders will walk together in their construction hardhats the four blocks from the Marriott to the General Assembly Building.

9:45 – 11 a.m. – HBAV builders will voice their concerns with state legislators in the General Assembly Building.

WHERE:
Marriott Hotel (Capital Ballroom)                       General Assembly Building
500 E. Broad Street                                         Downtown Richmond
Richmond, Va.

VISUALS: An estimated 500 builders are expected in their construction hardhats.
